Hyde Park Gate Pied-a-Terre
We designed a stylish pied-a-terre in the South Kensington area of London. The client was an American lawyer who was opening a London branch office of his New York practice. The client uses the apartment when he is in town, otherwise it can be used by the firm’s other partners. Originate’s concept was to create an apartment that worked similarly to a high-end hotel, with simple and robust materials.
We wanted a fairly minimal and elegant palette for the pied-a-terre, therefore we chose pale limestone for the walls and matching oak for the floors. As a contrast, we chose a dark-stained oak for the wall panelling and bespoke joinery. We sought to create a strong design statment. The kitchen featured a stainless steel island. We planned the living, dining and kitchen area as one large space to facilitate entertaining and take advantage of the two large windows facing the private gardens in the centre of the square. Originate designed the master bedroom suite to contain a home office, the bedroom, dressing area and ensuite bathroom. We used the same materials from the living spaces in the bedroom areas to create a strong design aesthetic.
Originate sourced all the furniture and artworks for the pied-a-terre. We chose key pieces from Molteni and B&B Italia collections to acheive a cohesive feel. We commissioned the major artwork pieces from Martha Winter to complete the look.
